More than a sightseeing tour.

Wilsons Prom for travellers who actually want to hike it.

Wilsons Prom is one of Victoria's great wilderness areas, and we think the best way to experience it is on foot. This is a proper day outdoors — mountain trails, granite peaks, white-sand beaches, coastal wilderness and some of Australia's most iconic wildlife.

With a maximum of 10 travellers and around 12 km of walking, there's less waiting around and far more time actually exploring. No huge coach, no racing between roadside stops and no spending the day looking at the Prom through a window.

We even make lunch part of the adventure. On the way to the Prom, we stop in Meeniyan for proper coffee and local picnic supplies, then enjoy lunch at the summit of Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop, surrounded by the mountains and coastline we've come to explore.

The Hike & Seek difference

Fewer people. More hiking. More Prom.

We created Hike & Seek for travellers who want to properly experience Victoria's wild places rather than simply visit them.

Maximum 10 travellers

No big coaches or disappearing into a crowd. Small groups mean a more personal, relaxed and social day in the Prom.

Around 12 km of hiking

This is a genuinely active day. You'll spend far more time on trails, beaches and summits than sitting in the vehicle.

A proper summit hike

Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop gives the day a real objective — climb through the mountains and earn one of Victoria's best coastal views.

Mountains and beaches

Few Melbourne day trips give you a summit hike and a world-class beach in the same adventure. At the Prom, you get both.

Wildlife worth slowing down for

The Prom is home to wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, emus and more. When wildlife appears, a small group gives us the freedom to stop and enjoy it.

Local guides, flexible days

Weather, track conditions and wildlife shape every adventure. Our guides can adjust the day instead of blindly following a coach-tour schedule.

Your adventure

From mountain summit to white-sand beach.

Few places let you climb a mountain, picnic at the summit, walk one of Australia's most beautiful beaches and finish the day watching wombats and kangaroos — all in a single day.

The exact route can shift with weather, track conditions and wildlife. That's part of travelling with a small group and a local guide: we can choose the best version of the Prom for the day in front of us.

Coffee & Picnic Supplies in Meeniyan

Before reaching the Prom, we stop in the small South Gippsland town of Meeniyan for proper coffee and time to grab something local for your picnic lunch. Pick up a sandwich, bakery treat or whatever takes your fancy before we continue towards the national park. It's a relaxed regional stop and a chance to support one of the small towns we travel through.

Welcome to Wilsons Prom

As soon as we enter the national park, the scenery changes. Granite mountains rise behind coastal heath, wildlife appears along the roadside and the wilderness starts to feel very real. From here, most of the day is spent outside the vehicle.

Coastal Hike

Start exploring on foot through coastal bushland, granite landscapes and some of the Prom's incredible shoreline. The exact walking route can vary with conditions, giving us the freedom to choose the best experience for the day rather than forcing the same itinerary regardless of weather or track conditions.

Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop

Now for the main adventure. Depending on conditions, we tackle either Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop — a proper summit hike through the Prom's granite mountains. The climb gets the legs working, but reaching the top and looking across beaches, islands and wilderness makes every step worth it.

Picnic Lunch at the Summit

Settle in at the top of Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop and unpack the lunch you picked up in Meeniyan. With sweeping views across the Prom's mountains and coastline, it's a beautiful place to take a break, share a picnic and enjoy where the morning's hike has brought you.

Summit Views

This is why we hike. From high above the Prom, take in one of Victoria's great coastal landscapes — granite peaks dropping into turquoise bays, offshore islands and kilometres of protected wilderness. We'll give you time to enjoy the view before heading back down.

Squeaky Beach

Swap the mountain trail for one of Australia's most beautiful beaches. Walk across Squeaky Beach's famously white quartz sand, explore the granite boulders and, when the weather is right, cool off with a swim in the Southern Ocean.

Wildlife Spotting

As the day cools down, we'll slow things down and search for some of the animals that make the Prom special. Kangaroos, wallabies, emus and wombats are regularly seen around the park, and travelling in a small group means we can stop and enjoy an encounter properly when wildlife appears.

Relax on the drive back to Melbourne after a full day of mountains, beaches, hiking, wildlife and good company — the kind of day where you feel like you've actually been to Wilsons Prom, not just driven through it.

Wilsons Prom hiking tour FAQs

How is Hike & Seek different from a typical Wilsons Prom tour?

Our Wilsons Prom tour is built around actually exploring the national park on foot. We keep groups to a maximum of 10 travellers, complete around 12 km of walking across the day, tackle a summit hike to Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop, visit Squeaky Beach and make time for wildlife. It's an active wilderness day rather than a sightseeing tour built around short photo stops.

How much walking is involved?

Expect around 12 km of walking across the day, split between two hikes and shorter walks around the Prom. The terrain varies from coastal trails and beaches to uphill mountain tracks, steps and uneven surfaces.

How difficult is the hiking?

The tour is generally Grade 3 and suits travellers with a reasonable level of fitness. You should be comfortable walking for several hours across the day, including uphill sections, uneven surfaces and steps. You don't need to be an expert hiker, but this is definitely an active tour.

Do we hike Mt Oberon?

We generally hike either Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop depending on weather, track access and conditions. Both deliver fantastic views and give the day a genuine mountain-hiking component.

Why do you stop in Meeniyan?

Meeniyan is one of our favourite South Gippsland stops on the way to the Prom. We stop for proper coffee and give you time to pick up something for your summit picnic lunch before entering the national park. It means we can spend more of the day inside the Prom rather than queuing at a busy tourist lunch stop.

Is lunch included?

Lunch is purchased separately in Meeniyan. You'll have time to grab something from a local cafe or bakery before we continue to Wilsons Prom, then we'll enjoy a picnic at the summit of Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop during our hike.

Can I swim at Squeaky Beach?

In warmer weather, guests are welcome to bring swimmers and a towel. Whether swimming is suitable depends on weather and ocean conditions on the day, so always follow your guide's advice.

Will we definitely see wombats and kangaroos?

Wildlife sightings are common in Wilsons Prom, particularly kangaroos, wallabies, emus and wombats, but they're genuinely wild animals so sightings can never be guaranteed. We make time to look and stop when conditions allow.

Who normally joins Hike & Seek tours?

Our tours attract travellers who enjoy hiking, nature, wildlife, beaches and active adventures. Because the day includes real walking and a summit hike, it tends to attract curious, outdoorsy travellers, and the small group makes it easy to meet like-minded people.

Where does the tour depart?

The tour departs from 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne at 7:30 AM. Please arrive around 10 minutes early so our small group can leave Melbourne on time.

Does the tour run in bad weather?

Tours generally operate in changing weather, but conditions can affect mountain tracks, swimming and some walking routes. One advantage of travelling with a small group and local guide is that we can adjust the itinerary when necessary for safety or track conditions.

What should I bring?

Bring comfortable trainers or hiking shoes, at least 1 litre of water, warm layers, a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Bring a small day bag to carry your water and picnic lunch on the hike. In warmer months you can also bring swimmers and a towel.

Can I bring luggage?

Storage is limited in our small-group vehicle. Please contact us before booking if you need to bring anything larger than a small day bag.

What is the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before departure. Cancellations made within 24 hours are generally non-refundable.
