Warm with people

Work with Hike & Seek
We’re a small Melbourne team of guides, hikers, photographers, musicians and outdoors people. We’re not always hiring, but we’re always happy to meet people who could be a great fit for future guiding work.
No vacancy? Still say hi.
We don’t currently have a specific role advertised, but Hike & Seek is a small business and opportunities can come up throughout the year as tours get busier, new experiences are added or extra guiding support is needed.
That’s why we like hearing from good people ahead of time. If you think you’d fit the way we run tours, introduce yourself and we can keep you in mind when something suitable comes up.

What guiding with us is like
Guiding with Hike & Seek is a mix of driving, hiking, storytelling, helping people feel comfortable and making sure the day flows well. Some days are energetic, some are relaxed, and every group is different.
You might spend the morning hiking to a lookout, the afternoon spotting wildlife and several hours in between talking with guests from all over the world. The job suits people who enjoy both the outdoors and the human side of travel.
You enjoy meeting travellers, making people feel comfortable and creating a good atmosphere from the first pickup.
You actually enjoy hiking, nature, wildlife and spending long days outside — not just talking about it.
You can share stories and local knowledge without making the day feel like a lecture.
Weather, traffic and guests can all change the day. Good guides adapt without making it feel stressful.
A bird in the trees, an interesting rock, a changing cloud line or a guest who needs a slower pace — you pay attention.
Every group is different. Knowing when to talk, when to give people space and when to change the pace matters.
Who we like hearing from
Different backgrounds make the team better. Some guides know geology. Some are photographers. Some have years of hiking experience, hospitality experience or local knowledge.
You don’t need to tick every box. Reliability, personality, curiosity, judgement and the ability to connect with people matter a lot.
Different people. Different strengths.
The best guides bring their own personality and interests into the day. That’s part of what makes small-group travel feel personal.

Rocks, music & photography
Musician, photographer and the person to ask about geology.

Snow, photos & conversation
Backcountry snowboarder, photographer and excellent conversationalist.

Music & Gippsland roots
Musician, teacher and outdoor lover with a strong connection to Gippsland.
The practical stuff
Our guides look after guests, drive long distances, walk on outdoor trails and represent Hike & Seek throughout the day. There are some practical requirements that come with that.
What matters most
Knowing every historical date or plant species isn’t what makes someone a great guide on day one. We care more about whether you are dependable, curious, considerate, confident with people and genuinely interested in the places we explore.
If you already have a special interest — wildlife, geology, photography, local history, food, hiking or something completely different — even better. Bring it with you.
Expression of interest
We might not have a role today, but the next great guide usually starts with a hello.
Send us a little about yourself and we’ll keep your details on hand for future opportunities.
Helpful things to include
A CV is welcome, but a thoughtful introduction matters more than a formal cover letter.
Maybe not today. Maybe next season.
If Hike & Seek sounds like your kind of company, introduce yourself. We’d love to know who’s out there.
